Post-Jam Results!

How did it go? - 4/5 not bad.

War in Heaven did prettty well in the final results. I was admittedly a bit dissapointed at how low it placed, but it also received a butt load of ratings which may have skewed it in unfavourable conditions as it is more prone to other people rating it negatively.

Maybe.

These are how the game place:

At first glance, it is nothing extraordinary. But on further inspection, it does reveal something more. Most categories are relatively equal ranging between 3.9 to 3.8, with audio being the exception at 3.0.

Nearing an average score of 4 is pretty important for various of reason for me. The breakpoint of 4.0 average score means that a large enough proportion of people rate it 5 stars as opposed to 4 stars. So if anything, this game was quite a strong success with some strong scores across the board in visuals, creativity, fun and approachability.

The strongest score being approachability (theme aside) which I am quite happy about as I had plenty of playtesting during the making of the game to balance the difficulty and ensure it develops a strong and fair difficulty curve.

Weakest areas include the audio, and that is also pointed out by players with the sound FX not completely fitting, too loud, too obnoxious or etc. I am still not entirely sure what this pinpoints to, but it does warrant some closer study as to how to fix this audio thing. It could be possible that there are a lot of cluttering noise that do not contribute to overall gameplay.

I will go into this in more detail in the post-mortem.

Future plans - Steam store page and Discord?

I had a lot of fun making the game honestly. Three cheers to the moderators and the jam host at hosting the bullet hell jam. Very fun!

Current shorter term plans is to make a post-jam update that addresses some problems the players have gave feedback on, most noticably on audio. I would also like to prepare the build with more options such as graphics, resolution, visual clarity and visual fidelity. And if possible, commissioned artwork or music to furbish the game with a more unique soundscape than what it currently has.

Longer term plans include: To make this a full steam release over the year and hopefully release by the end of the year, or the Q1 next year. Details on the full steam release will be kept under lock and key because most likely, I will be prone to cutting and changing features very rapidly depending on how able I am at integrating them.

I will be making a public steam page store and discord to reflect that very soon, hopefully this month! Stay tuned!

With that said, thank you all for playing the game! Super glad ya'll enjoyed it as much as I played it!
