V2 Progress - A Windy Area!

Progress on V2 Update

This can comfortably mark the halfway-to-75% point of the progress of this V2 update for Chrono Guy and the Fabled Time Cup - exciting to see it reaching nearing the end! The planned changes were all listed in here.

Let's go over what has been done:

Fans

They can blow you, but with Chrono Guy's powers, you can make the fans blow in the opposite direction and suck you in instead! I'm excited for you guys to play the second area for yourself and discover the puzzles waiting to be solved in this second area!

New Mechanics: Fans!

Anomalously-working fans in abandoned Dungeons. They can blow you away - literally!

Fans will also interact well with boulders, platforms and gates as per introduced in the first area - creating interesting (and surprising even for me) puzzles in this second area!

Gratings

While I initially mentioned I was probably going to add only one mechanic, I ended up adding 2 more (the last one below). Gratings are a new block type, they are perfectly solid and safe to stand on (and collide onto) but wind can pass through them.

Nothing too special - but it's just something that's nice to have!

Be careful of where you step!

Spikes

Spikes are the final thing I added in the game - they generally also don't add too much except act as hazards where players will die upon touching it. In the first version (the jam-version), I have only made use of pitfalls to make death happen - now we have something physical (and pointy!) to kill the player.

Ouchies!

The Second Area

As previously mentioned, I plan to have one more content update focusing on one more set of levels with a focus on a new mechanic/object - as is courtesy of puzzle games. As of this writing, I am currently undergoing final draftings, changing levels, polishing of levels. So it's not all set in stone.

There will be approximately 10+ more new levels in this content update, making this post-jam game a respectable small-sized game so I'm now planning to work on an autosave function to allow players to easily leave and return from where they left off.

I'm working on the balance between puzzle and platforming elements, having to be particularly careful on who I'm trying to target the game for. As you may have seen in the previous devlogs, there are definitely intense platforming elements so this is in a mixed-bag territory currently.

One of the puzzles

Wind can be blocked, and allow you cross otherwise difficult-to-pass places.

If otherwise stuck, you can also rewind yourself!

Next Plans:

Finalising better tutorial levels in introducing the mechanics - this will take some trial and error!

Carrying forward from the previous devlog, I am currently planning for many more UI polish and updates. Not too much - just enough to support cutscenes, and a better main menu.

A form of save-and-load feature to save progress better where necessary.

Naturally, essential bug fixes that have been found - nothing game breaking but can be annoying!

And perhaps a focus on sound sometime!

The current jam version of Chrono Guy and the Fabled Time Cup is available to play here! If you are interested in following my work, I have a twitter account you can follow for more up-to-date images that I release whenever I can.

Thanks for reading and here's hoping you'll enjoy the next post-jam update. Cheerios.
