V2 Final Steps in Progress and Release Date Announcement!

Progress on V2 Update

This post will mark the end of development for the Chrono Guy and the Fabled Time Cup, with a few planned features never making it in the game, in the interest of time. With the release of my first public completed-ish game, I also went ahead and decided, I may as well practice, and make an announcement trailer, and a gameplay trailer on release date. Here you can see the announcement trailer!

In other words, V2 will finally release on September 19!

Notable features that have made it into this week are:

Art and Cutscenes

As you may seen already, this week has had a heavy emphasis on art, improving the game page with new headers and etc. to decorate the game alongside the new coat of paint! This includes new, short (and bear with me here.. unskippable) cutscenes that help shape out the world that was in my head. These are small snippets meant to just serve as practice for me to tackle larger pixel art pieces in later games to come.

Chrono Guy lives in a magical world, and what better way to show it through a thriving open world that you can explore and immerse yourself cutscenes!

Skip Button

This was a small feature that I was considering for a while. Due to the nature of puzzles, forcing players to find a solution can be frustrating, especially if they can't find the solution and end up being stuck - this can be exceptionally dangerous if the puzzle game is linear in nature.

Notable other examples whom I am inspired from to make this decision is of course: Helltaker, Braid and the recently released A Monster's Expedition.

Other small tweaks

This includes things like adding trails to wind particles, adding light to player, and fixing more numerous bugs strewn across the game.

Discarded Plans

Things that ended up not making into the final game included the sound rework I was thinking, the save-and-load feature and much more UI updates that I was hoping to have.

I definitely feel I could put in more time to add all these things I mentioned but I think it would be stretching this small game too long with the small plan I have. This devlog will mark the 5th week I have worked on this game and for such a small-scale, simple post-jam game, I feel like I should look forward to more bigger projects moving forward.

Next Steps

The gameplay trailer will be announced on the day of release and with such, stay tuned for it!

This will be the last devlog that details progress on this game as I will continue to work on other games now. If you ever like my stuff, feel free to reach out to me!
